Reds reliever Weathers throws seven pitches for Dragons

DAYTON — After throwing only seven pitches — all for strikes — Reds reliever David Weathers walked off the mound at Fifth Third Field feeling great Friday, May 2.
Did he get what he wanted out of just seven pitches as a starter in a rehab assignment with the Class A Dayton Dragons?

"Yeah, three outs," Weathers said of his inning against the Burlington Bees. "Keep the ball down and good things happen. And, I was pain free."
On the disabled list for only the second time in 19 major league seasons, Weathers did not pitch for seven days with inflammation on the ulnar nerve in his right, throwing elbow, beginning April 20.
Since then, he has done some long toss, then pitched a scoreless inning in a rehab assignment at Class AAA Louisville on Tuesday.
He expects to pitch again for the Dragons Saturday, only in relief.
Weathers was scheduled to pitch an inning of relief today, but a hard rain prior to the game plus the threat of more later, changed plans. He struck out one batter sandwiched between two ground outs. He is expected to come off the DL on Monday.
